Inverness College Student Handbook

We recently told you about our new client, Inverness College. Well, the student handbook has now been designed, printed, delivered and photographed – so you can now see how it looks.
The previous handbook was very much an informative text-heavy, black and white document. Our breif was to create something more vibrant that would excite the students and inspire them to keep hold of the handbook. Many student publications talk to young people in a patronising way through design. We wanted to be authentic, honest and real (research has shown that young people prefer this kind of communication).
We developed a handbook that was visually engaging through the use of colour, photography and illustration. We presented the essential information in a varied way through use of quirky hand drawn illustrations, photographic treatments and graphic techniques to appeal to the student audience.
We were delighted the response of Inverness's College's Communications and Marketing Manager, Claire Hamilton who said "The handbook is a world away from last years which staff found lying around soon after they were distributed to students. The handbook is full of important essential information which we felt the students needed to retain for as long as possible. I chose Kayak to produce the handbook after seeing some of their other work, and felt their modern, alturistic style would work well with what I wanted. I am not disappointed. The handbook is very colourful, user friendly, easy to read and most of all the students and lecturing staff like it and are using it.".
