Inverness College design.

The challenge

Inverness College UHI is a College providing high quality learning, and is the largest partner college in the University of the Highlands and Islands. The college provides new students with a Student Handbook and it was important to produce something that would be retained by the students.

The solution

Our approach to the handbook was to produce a magazine feel that would appeal to the 16-22 market and excite and inspire them to keep hold it. We created a vibrant handbook through the use of colour, photography and illustration. By presenting the essential information the handbook contained in a fun, interesting way, we produced a visually engaging publication that appeals to the student audience. Quirky illustrations used throughout to tie in with the text and a variety of image treatments were applied to the photography, along with other graphic techniques to create the vibrant look and feel.

The result

The Student Handbook has been well received by both staff and students alike. Students are no longer discarding them as in previous years and are using and keeping hold of them.

Inverness's College's Communications and Marketing Manager, Claire Hamilton said

"The handbook is a world away from last years which staff found lying around soon after they were distributed to students. The handbook is full of important essential information which we felt the students needed to retain for as long as possible. I chose Kayak to produce the handbook after seeing some of their other work, and felt their modern, alturistic style would work well with what I wanted. I am not disappointed. The handbook is very colourful, user friendly, easy to read and most of all the students and lecturing staff like it and are using it.".
