New Media Scotland rebranding.

The challenge.

New Media Scotland is a national development agency, supported by the Scottish Arts Council, which fosters artist and audience engagement with all forms of new media practice. We were successful in a tender to re-brand the organisation.

The solution.

The organisation was considering a name change, so we developed a solution by use of a marque that worked without showing the name. The Arcs motif was devised to represent the elements of art, science and technology which New Media Scotland serves to promote. The device effectively acts as a visual representation of sound, motion and geometry. The symbol is foil blocked onto a tactile grey paper stock. Staff email addresses are simply hand-stamped onto the reverse when required. This cost effective solution vastly reduces waste, as there is no need to print cards for new staff. An embossing stamp was created for branding letterheads and other internally-produced documents. The identity is regularly used by a variety of artists and designers, so the provision of clear guidelines is very important to illustrate clear usage of brand marques and logotypes and demonstrate the flexibility of the identity.

The result.

This combination of mechanical and human methods produces an end result which is subtle and intriguing for the organisation’s wide ranging creative audiences.
